PRESTON will have a lab dog to play with in his new home. Preston came from the Maryville shelter the day of his euthanasia. He's a hound mix--possible a little shep. He's got a beautiful coat. He is quite the eater - loves his food! He is around 6-9 months (as of 9/03) and has been growing - project around 60 lbs. He is fully vaccinated and soon to be micro-chipped. He is neutered. He's been dewormed and is on HW meds--negative for HW. He gets along with other dogs but may do best with either a female or as a single dog. Loves attention and loves to play.

UPDATE 12/30/03: April is doing very well. She came with me during the Christmas holidays and visited multiple places and was very good. Everyone in my family loves her and wanted her for their own. April loves the woods and runs around all day. I don't even have to worry about her. I can do my job while she does her thing and she usually stays with in sight, but if she gets out of sight she comes running to me when I call her. Thanks for this great dog and I truly hope you find a place for all those dogs that are yet to be adopted. - Seth April is a female Pointer mix. She weighs 52 lbs. She is about 2 years old. She is the most loving / loyal dog. She was adopted as a puppy from the humane society by a family with 2 children. As a young puppy, she was crate trained and had no 'accidents' in the house. She thinks she is a lap dog at times. As April grew up, she was left outside in the yard without much interaction or attention / activity to interest her. She was surrendered by her owners as they were moving and could not take her with them. She needs a family / home that is committed to giving her attention / love and where she will be cared for. April is spayed. She is up-to-date on vaccinations, tested for HW, dewormed, treated for fleas and tics and micro-chipped. |
APRIL UPDATE 1/06 & 07/05: My name is Seth and I adopted April from you a little over a year ago. Life with April is great and she and I do just about everything together. I was thinking about adopting another dog from you. I would like a dog to compliment April. I would like a dog that is quiet, house broken, and fairly obedient...like April. Please let me know if you have a dog that would be best friends with April. April is doing great...despite a couple of minor accidents. She was bit by a snake this past summer. It did not take her long to recover from the bite but she was sick for a day or two. April was also bit by another dog this past October. It was one of my friend's dogs and it required stitiches and some antibiotics, so April will not be visiting that friend's house any longer. Other than that, April is thriving with me and everybody loves her. When I first got April, she was very afraid of my Dad and would not be in the same room with him if he visited. But now my Dad is one of April's favorite people and shadows him whenever we go to my parent's house. Hopefully we can get together in a couple of weeks and find a canine friend for April and a good home for another good dog. APRIL has a wonderful home!! Her new 'guardian' is a forester. She sleeps at the end of his bed each night and curls up on the couch with him to watch TV. She stays inside the house during the day or goes to work with him. She's been housebroken--no problems! He hasn't had any trouble with her jumping up on him. He told me he thinks she is the best dog--just loves her. ![]() 2005 |

PETEY & MILLIE were adopted by the same family. The daughter has fallen in love with Millie and thinks she is the sweetest dog. Millie sleeps with her and Petie sleeps with the parents. One day apparently Petie was snoring just as loud as the husband! Petie and Millie have a big back yard to run around in during the day. they have been going to ball games to see the kids play. they make friends with everyone. The two get along so well and just seem to love each other. They have both been really good with the housebreaking and are very good about not chewing in the house. Petie carries a tennis ball around in his mouth (I knew he had lab in him) all the time. He even goes to sleep with it in his mouth! they are very happy and have found a WONDERFUL home! They will soon be moving to the mountains! PETEY is a Dalmatian / lab / boxer mix. He loves to retrieve and acts very much like both a boxer and a lab. He will retrieve for hours. Has a very sweet personality. He reminds me of a boxer in many ways. He loves to chase a tennis ball and a soccer ball. He is neutered. Petey has a bobtail. He's about 60 lbs. He's UTD on shots. I did transport with him and he is just a love. MILLIE is a love. She's very sweet and loves to be petted. She's making up for loss time as she adores being with you. She will curl up in your lap. She was taken out of the Griffin Ga shelter the day she was to be put down. She gets along well with other dogs. She has beautiful brown eyes. She's around 6 months old. She's spayed, UTD shots, HW negative and on pills, tx for fleas and tics and dewormed. She has had an injury to her left back leg--probably hit by a car. She isn't bearing weight but still gets around wonderfully. I will be addressing this soon. She is a wonderful dog that just wants to be someone's best friend.

He is living there with a new playmate and doing very well. He is well taken care of! UPDATE Oct. 30, 2004: Sprocket and I are back in Boston. He is LOVING it!!! My family spoils him all the time. He has more toys than a family with 5 dogs would need! My sister actually bought a puppy one week ago, a rat terrier :) Sprocket isn't so sure what to do with the little guy yet, but he's getting used to him. Every day they play a little more together, we even caught them sleeping together once.

BARLEY I am fostering this delightful young man...dog. His name is Barley and he is about 8 months old and 35 lbs.. He is just a joy. He is a fun-loving guy with so much personality in one little body. Barley is a basset/corgi mix and loves everyone!!! He might have been a nurse in his past life because he is such the caregiver. He wants to make sure everyone is doing okay. Barley likes to hide behind bushes and jump out to surprise you. He loves laying in the grass, riding in cars, going for walks, and goofing around. I don't think there is not much Barley doesn't like. Barley has been hit by a car at one time but has had his operation. He should have full use of his leg in about a month. He gets along great on three legs but you would just have to be gentle with him until full recovery. He has been through so much and still is full of love and interest in life. |

Rebel at his new home with his new
buddy. |
AUSTIN (renamed REBEL) has found the best home! He is so very blessed! He will be living with a beautiful female german shep and several cats! He is being very good to learn his place with the cats. He and his new doggy buddy are getting along very well. They have a big fenced in back yard to run and play in! He isn't a dominant dog so he is very willing to let her lead him! He is so very blessed as he has a very caring family to love him. Austin is a
black german shep mix (very much GSD). He's young--1-2 yrs
maybe. Very sweet and loves people. He wants to just be
petted. He's a lot of fun, loves walks, would be a great
hiking dog. He was taken out of the Maryville shelter the
day of his euthanasia. He's had his shots, dewormed, tested
HW negative and on pills for this. He's soon to be neutered
and micro-chipped.
2003 update: Rebel finished obedience school adn is so very smart. The trainer said he's one of the smartest dogs he's ever had! |

Adopted 09/03/03 BETTIS Bernese/Husky Mix. Bettis is a wonderful, loving, overgrown "lap" dog. He loves humans and is fantastic with children of all ages, especially toddlers with whom is very gentle, patient and loving towards. A fenced yard is a must but a four footer will do as he does not try to escape. He should NOT be placed in a home with cats or more than two other dogs. Bettis does very well with not going potty in the house although he is primarily an outdoor dog right now. He is a loyal, gentle dog who would be a wonderful family companion especially for a family who enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking. He is 85 lbs right now and still growing! Bettis is neutered, fully vaccinated and heartworm negative and on preventative. Bettis walks pretty good on a leash and will sit on command. He is a "lazy" type of dog but does enjoy play time with family and other dogs. |

DAISY renamed "Emma", is doing wonderful with her new mom Jessica. She is traveling quite a bit, meeting all her new relatives and loves her new life! she loves being indoors! DAISY is a gorgeous Setter Mix with a beautiful personality to match. She loves to play in water, loves the company of children and other dogs. She is medium sized in height, weighs around 35 to 40 lbs and would make an excellent family dog. She is young, probably a little less than a year old. |

BENZ was adopted by a very kind man who has two little beagle boys for her to play with. She is still adjusting and warming up to her new family but they really love her and are doing everything they can to make her feel at home. BENZ is a very shy one year old basenji / chow mix. She is smooth coated, light brown in color-just adorable. Benzie loves other dogs and cats, is fantastic and actually is most comfortable with young children. She is shy around adults but is always loving and eager to get to know people. She is learning how to walk on a leash and is doing quite well. We prefer a home with another dog companion but this is not a requirement. |

DUKE went to a home in Illinois. He went to live w/ a young family with children. They adore him. He will start private lessons w/ obedience here soon. They feel that they are the lucky ones so they changed his name to Lucky. He will be an inside dog. Pretty good home for a dog that was running loose as a stray, living off who knows what and then picked up by the shelter. He lived at the shelter for 6 months until time was up. Then a kind rescuer took him in until a good situation for a home worked out. The adoptive family told me that they look forward to having him and loving him for life! Duke is a happy go lucky black lab mix with a nice calm personality. He is currently an outdoor dog and loves basking in the sun and playing with his fence mates. He is excellent with cats and has nice house manners. He is being crate trained for overnight sleeping and is doing wonderful! Duke loves to play with people and give and receive affection but is not human dependent. He would make an excellent easy going companion for anyone. Duke is micro-chipped, neutered, up to date on rabies, boosters and is heartworm negative and on preventative. |

female. Taken from a shelter. |

TILLEY has struck gold! She lives in a beautiful home in northwest Knoxville with a couple with grown children. He's disabled but gets Tilley out in his trunk and they ride around. Tilley is extremely attached to them and to people and is having to be put in a pen when they leave. She was having trouble adjusting to a crate--became very distraught so they ordered a very large pen and have this for her. She still doesn't like it but it gives her much more room to run around. She gets along great with the granddaughter--they run around the backyard together. Tilley also loves to have other dogs come and visit--they play and wear themselves out. She will let them come visit but the house is off limits. She is just full of personality and loves to entertain her new family. She has taken over every couch but has her favorites! Still working on housebreaking--hopefully this will be nailed down soon! Tilley is a 1 yr sheltie/aussie mix. She weighs about 15-18 lbs. She is very, very sweet. She's good w/ other dogs, good w/ cats and loves to be held and loved. She very affectionate and loving. She is up-to-date on shots, spayed and soon to be micro-chipped. She loves to play and will need a home where she can play and have fun. She would do very well in a home with children. She has been around children and has done very well. |

SARA - has gone to live with a single guy and his roommates here in Knoxville. Someone is home at all times so she is getting lots of attention. She is adjusting well to crate training and isn't having any accidents in the house. She has really attached herself to her new "Dad" and loves him. They will be going on hikes together. Pretty good for a little dog that was scared to death when I first took her in. She has blossomed into a very happy and well adjusted little gal. 8-24-03: we have been calling her Savannah and she is starting to get used to it. She seems to be very happy. Both my roommates are back now and everyone gets along. They both enjoy her around and every likes taking her for walks. She didn't like being in her crate much at all at first, but I think she is starting to understand that its not so bad. We have been to the park a few times and when we can't get there we usually go up to the tennis court where she can run around. She has learned to sit pretty well and likes playing with the ball now. I am really glad she is here and I think she fits right in with us. Lab mix puppy. She's sweet and playful. She is about 17-18 wks old as of 7/20/03. She weighs about 30 lbs right now. She loves other dogs and is assertive but not aggressive. Loves to play--good to come when you call. She has a sweet temperament. She loves to sleep w/ me--very sweet little dog. Mostly lab (w/ web feet). Very healthy, no problems with hips (no hip dysplasia). She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed, on heartworm medication and is micro-chipped. |
|
GERMAN SHEPHERD has also been adopted in ARK. She went into a foster home and was found to have liver or stomach trouble. She has been adopted by the foster home and they will deal w/ the problem she is having. She weighs about 70 lbs. She is shy at first with some men, but warms very quick once she is petted. She seems to like kids and is not skittish with them. She is good with other dogs. She will be cat tested soon. |

KIAH has gone to live with a young couple (no children) in south Knoxville. She is living in a wonderful little home with a fenced in back yard and 2 adult cats. One of the cats actually looks like her. She is getting along well with the cats--actually a little afraid of them! She is housebreaking well--almost never has an accident now. They just adore her. She's exactly what they were looking for. When they contacted me, they asked about a little sheltie type dog--Kiah fit the bill! Kiah looks like a little huskie (but small). She weighs about 18-20 lbs. She has a very sweet personality and approaches people and licks your hand. She is very trusting and gentle. She is crate trained and loves car rides. When she was rescued, she was hardly fed and definitely not loved. She's about 1 year old or so. She's up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, dewormed. She is spayed. She's also micro-chipped. She's lived outside her entire life but I'd like for her to be moved inside. |

ANGEL is at her new home with a wonderful woman in Lexington. She fell in love with Angel immediately. Update 8/12/03: I ACTUALLY WAS BEING FUNNY WITH WORDS ABOUT ANGEL COULD BE A LITTLE DEVIL. SHE IS A LITTLE SNEAKY THING SOMETIMES THOUGH WHEN SHE THINKS I'M NOT WATCHING. SHE GOT A HOLD OF THE REMOTE CONTROL, I GUESS SHE WANTED TO WATCH WHAT SHE WANTED TO. I HEARD HER AND WENT IN THE LIVING ROOM AND SAID "NO" AND GAVE HER THE BONE THAT WAS ON THE FLOOR. SHE STILL LIKES TO JUMP UP ON EVERYONE AND WE ARE WORKING ON THAT AND PROBABLY WILL FOR SOME TIME!!! SHE IS THE SWEETEST THING AND EVEN IF THE JUMPING THING DOESN'T STOP THAT'S OKAY WITH ME. IT'S A HABIT THAT'S HARD TO BREAK BUT I SEE IT AS SHE IS HAPPY TO SEE ME AND SHE SETTLES DOWN FOR THE MOST PART AFTER THAT. IN MY EYES SHE IS PERFECT!!!!! SHE LIKES TO SHAKE HER HEAD AND TOSS TOYS SHE HAS AND EVEN AN OLD SLIPPER OF MINE THAT IS NOW HERS. This is the little female spitz mix . She is about 2-3 years old and weighs about 22 lbs. She had 9 puppies (pictured below) on 3/8/2003 but she will be spayed as soon as it is safe for her and her puppies. She's heartworm negative, up-to-date on shots, micro-chipped and dewormed. She's very friendly and loves to please. She loves to be petted and loved. She hasn't received much love or care in her life and I'm wanting that to turn around. She's lived outside but I'd like for her to be an inside dog. Renee |

DUDLEY MOORE (aussie/shep mix.) was originally pulled out a shelter because his time was up. Dudley has a wonderful personality. Gets along with all dogs and cats. He was recently seen by a lady (she has worked at the HS in the past) who just lost her husky mix to old age. She said Dudley had that look about him that reminded her of her other dog. She knew she had to have him. He's found a wonderful home. His home is very close to where he used to live in rescue. |

PORTER went to live in Aspen Colorado! His new family (young couple without children) wanted a little longer haired puppy that could live in their condo but go on hikes with them! He just adores them! He is being showered with attention as an only dog!

8/5/03: Luna is settling down...no more jumping up, unless we are holding food when we walk in the door. Her chewing is better as we keep lots of toys around for her to chew on. Our friends gave her a new one: it is a rubber ring. She likes to try to bat around a tennis ball with it. It's like two games in one for her. She loves tennis balls and now baseballs too. We live behind a ball park and get several foul balls in the yard. I don't really like her having them, though because she chews the leather to pieces and will eat it if we are not careful. The only vice she has is stealing paper. She'll take it out of trash cans if they are low enough and off of the end table in the living room. She really enjoys chewing on paper...she even at the cover off of one of my books. So, we have to watch that and put anything paper out of reach. She is recovering well from surgery. She has been so sad that she couldn't run around outside. The backyard is one of her favorite spots. She just stood in the kitchen and whined and got excited when the squirrels would go by. She's gotten very cuddly and likes to lay down at night and curl up in between my legs and be petted as we wind down the day in front of the tv. We have done a little hiking but there is one problem: she's not very good off leash. She'll run after anything that moves and I'm worried about going to do challenging hikes and have her run off trail to a place where I can't find her. I can't scramble boulders, either, with her on a leash. So, I keep the hiking to local, less challenging hills where I keep her on leash. She'll pull hard after squirrels and such and even dragged my cousin down a hill to the point where Kristen had to let go of the leash. So, we have to work on our off leash skills. I think going hiking with another dog will help because that occupies Luna's attention off leash and she's less likely to chase after a squirrel when she is chasing after another dog. She's very good with the labs and collie in the neighborhood. She's even pretty good with small dogs, she's just really big and strong and puppyish so that sometimes scares them. She's not very good with our other friend's border collie, but I think that is more of the other dog's problem, not Luna's. We have her in basic obedience training. She's good with heel (for short periods of time), sit is her best skill, and now down. She's gotten very good with down. She's good with come inside the house but when distracted is very bad. She's also very good with stay! The only thing is she's stubborn and will sometimes be head strong if she doesn't want to stay, she won't! She's maintained her weight, though I think it is being redistributed and she is filling out a bit. Her muscles in her legs are really showing through. She's such a beautiful dog. I'm trying to watch her weight because all of the other labs around are these round barrels, like tanks. I like her look: muscular and lean. We feed her more, but she gets a lot of exercise so she has stayed very stable. She came to us at 73 pounds, lost four to 69 when we first had her (feeding 2 cups) so we increased it to 3 and 1/3 cups and she's maintained 73. She's great running with me and I'm trying to work her up to more miles. When I go back to work I plan to run her 3 miles every morning. Now we are doing 3-4 miles a couple times a week. |
LUNA
(formerly
AIMEE) was adopted to a young couple in Boston. AIMEE is a pure black lab. She's got a great personality--she's playful and LOVES to retrieve. She's learning to sit and bring a ball back. She loves people and just wants to be your companion. She is about 1 yr old. She's micro-chipped, HW negative and on medication, dewormed, tx for fleas and tics and UTD on shots. She's soon to be spayed. She needs a fenced in back yard to run off the excess energy. If left alone and becomes bored, she may chew! She loves chew toys--still has much puppy in her! She gets along well w/ other dogs but probably not best to put her w/ small dogs |
![]() BAILEY (renamed COOPER) will be living with a wonderful young responsible couple who just bought their first house. They are very loving and have had dog experience, especially jack experience. He will be the only dog so he will be so pampered! He will get to go on nightly walks. They specifically wanted to get a rescue dog and give one a chance! He is so very blessed to have found this home. He will be so loved! BAILEY is a confident little dog - very inquisitive, happy. He weighs about 12-15 lbs. He loves to sit in your lap, go for car rides. He is crate trained but doesn't really like the crate. He is neutered, UTD shots, dewormed, micro-chipped and HW tested (negative). He was apparently dumped off Martin Mill Pike in south Knoxville. I about hit him with my car as I was coming home. The neighbors said he'd been there around 2-3 weeks. |
UPDATE: 5/20/03 Hey! I just wanted to drop you a quick note and let you know how the first night and first full day went... Last night after the walk, he came back in and played some more with his toys.. He finally settled on the love seat and took a nap. We went back out just before bed. He is so great! He will go to the door.. and he knows the command "Sit".. he will sit down and let me put his leash on him! He LOVES Beggin' Strips & Milk Bones :) He will sit for them as well!.. He went in the crate easily.. I put a pillow for him to lay on and some of his toys in there with him.. and he went right to sleep. When Jason came home he took him out of the crate and outside one last time.. This morning I got up.. went to his crate and opened the door.. he crawled out.. stretched... the wagged his little tail and laid his head on me as I pet him and told him good morning :) I took him out... then Jason got up and went out with him again! lol.. I went to work.. and Jason took him down to the Lenoir City Park/Marina and went for a walk along the lake. They get along well! He played ball with him forever he said.. I think we have both agreed to name him "Cooper".. Everyone thinks that's a cute name..:) He was so excited when I came home today.. we loved on each other for a minute then I took him outside and for an even longer walk tonight. We actually met 3 different sets of neighbors already! They all love him... He is good with kids too.. there are lots of kids around here.. and today they were all out and wanted to pet him.. he ate it up and wagged his tail the whole time! :) I am so happy that he is a part of our family now.. I honestly can't see why anyone wouldn't want this dog.. he is awesome! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to have him.. I will keep you updated!! Write me anytime! I would love to see the pictures you took last night!! Talk to you soon!! UPDATE: 5/21/03 Cooper is doing great! He knows how to "lay down" too! We went walking in the other neighborhood tonight. We put his popsicle bandana on and showed him off! |

RUFUS found the absolutely perfect home! He is already adored and is fitting in really well w/ them and their two poms. She went to the pet store and bought him a dog bed and lots of toys tonight! She told me that she has over 25 pics of labs and she had been researching rescue labs all over the country and was thrilled to find Rufus! Was right here all along. I'm so glad that he seems to be exactly what they are looking for! Update 5/29/03: Rufus is doing great, he has a bit of puppy in him still. I say this because he likes to chew unacceptable objects, shoes and endings of rugs. He is getting the hang of things and learns really fast. He is very happy and is trying hard to play with the blond Pom Lexus. Lexus is slowing checking him out and shares her toys with him even though he tears her toys a part but she doesn't seem to care. We are very pleased with Rufus. RUFUS
is about
2-3 yrs old. He weighs about 65-70 lbs. He's a very very
sweet male lab (pure). He was picked up as a stray by the
Newport animal control. He's been at Newport Animal Shelter
since Dec 21st, 2002. He is a little shy but loves people.
He's good with cats, good with children and seems to have an
idea that he's not to go to the bathroom in the house. I
haven't fully housebroken him yet. He is very gentle and
loves to be petted. I want him to be an inside pet. He has
been micro-chipped, has had all his shots and will be
neutered. He is an excellent dog and will make an excellent
pet! |
|
SMOKEY is so cute. He's already adjusting well. He is following the little boy of the house everywhere and even sleeps with him. He is really bonding to him. He learned to use the doggy door the first night! His new family even built him a little ramp to help him get up and down to the door! He gets along great with the other dogs of the house rottie mix and the cairn terrier. One day he and the terrier will learn to play. Hopefully, he will learn to catch the frisbee like his new buddy! ![]()

Tammy Willis LEO is a young corgi mix, probably close to a year old. He is neutered, up to date on shots and on heartworm preventative. He is a real character who loves being center of attention. He'd be a wonderful dog for a home with children. He has super short legs and a long chunky body. He weighs around 25 lbs but is extremely short. He is good with other dogs but can be dominant. He is wonderful with children, he adores them and craves their affection. He is a very nice little dog who has a lot to give. Jan-Marie

BASH bashful was adopted by a friend of the guy who surrended her. Don't be fooled by her name, this 7 month old girl is anything but bashful! She is very well adjusted and was very much loved by her previous owners. They have given her excellent care and it shows! She can sit on command has no accidents in our home. She is in excellent health, has a beautiful shiny reddish brown coat. She was born to a rescued beagle mother, father's breed unknown. She currently weighs about 28 lbs and should top off right around 35 lbs making her a wonderful "family sized" girl. She walks well on a leash and goes potty as soon as you go out the door and then wants to come back in. She loves other dogs and really tries to make friends with the kitties. She is wonderful with children and adults alike. This little girl would make a wonderful addition to any family! She is very respectful in a home, she is very alert and responds to positive reinforcement. |

UPDATE Fri, 21 Nov 2003 :They have come to adapt so well to the house and surroundings. I can remember when they first got here and I'd kick the sweeper on, they would run and hide. Now they lay in same room. They don't hide behind rocker like they use to.....although there are still some times but not as much as before so I think they are really coming along. They have become spoiled kids! They really run around the yard when they smell the cows/horses in the pasture. They have such a keen sense of smell. The boys stockings are already hanging on fireplace and they say "Dogs like xmas too" other says "Santa likes dogs too"..........this is going to be interesting when the tree goes up in livingroom........I bet they try to P on it.......no doubt in my mind so we are going to have to really watch them at first.....they like to p on bushes or trees......not so much on poles or things that aren't alive. Luanne Logan and Riley have gone to live in Columbia TN. They are in a wonderful home as you can tell from the emails I sent you. They are living w/ a couple who have grown children but grandchildren who come to play. Logan and Riley are still warming up, still a little shy but absolutely love them. They sleep in the bed w/ them every night and have an acre privacy fenced in back yard to play in! Two male labs. One chocolate and one blond. They are about 1.5 years old. They are neutered, UTD on shots, micro-chipped, HW negative and on pills for this. They are good with children of all ages. They are very attached to each other and it would be best to find them a home together. Both are very sweet and playful. Their story: they were abandoned in Claxton, TN. They belonged to someone who lost their house due to a fire, then abandoned these dogs. They were
adopted out to a wonderful family this year and did well but
recently (December 2002) the family have moved from the farm
they lived on to an apartment and couldn't keep them. ![]() 11/07/2003 |

EBE has gone to live w/ a young couple that just moved here from LA. They wanted a playmate for their beagle mix rescue. Buck absolutely adores Ebie. They play in the 3/4 acre fenced in back yard! She's adjusting well to the new home and to the two rescue cats inside. She gets along well with them--esp Feather the solid white one! She is so blessed and will be so well taken care of! UPDATE 5/06/03: Things are going great. She's a happy dog. And yes the house is still intact. We already "dog proofed" it for buck after he chewed a couple of tv remotes. All we have to do is provide ebe with a steady stream of toys, she goes thru em fast! Buck and Ebe had a bit of yelling at each other figuring out who's gonna sleep in what corner of the bedroom, but they got that established after a couple of days. She seems to be content with the backyard and has no desire to see what's on the other side of the fence. She's also kept buck from getting bored and hopping the fence as well. She's continuing brining him toys to play tug-a-war.
|
![]() Update 4/8/03: Ebe is starting to get used to the house. Still getting used to us, sometimes she comes to us when we call her, other times she's too busy investigating whatever catches her interest at the moment. Even then she's very well behaved. She loves to play tug of war with our other dog for hours, if you throw her the rope she will bring it over to buck and ask him to pull. She's very quiet at night we bring her into our room and she sleeps on a blanket next to the bed. She loves the yard, its kinda tough to get her to come inside sometimes. We'll be going to obedience school in a couple of weeks. |

COMET is going to a home in Cincinnati. COMET is a one year old schnauzer mix. He is soon to be neutered and vetted. He has a great personality and a lot of schnauzer qualities but is a bit larger than a schnauzer. He has a benji type coat and is soon to be shaved down as his previous owners kept him outdoors. He is looking for an indoor home where he can be a family dog and get the love he so desperately wants and deserves. He is crate trained and is doing excellent with housebreaking. He likes other dogs and is very gentle around cats and children. Jan-Marie |

HENRY has been adopted by me (Jan-Marie)! We found out that Henry is about fourteen years old and suffers from a bad heart. Henry was giving a prognosis of about six months to live. But this sweet old boy is going to fool his vet! He has a lot of fight left in him. Henry fits right in our home, he can't hear very good anymore so he is undeterred by the rest of my dogs barking at him. He spends his days asleep at my feet but don't be fooled by his senior age, he still loves to go for walks and hunt for the ladies! Henry is a wonderful companion and is teaching me invaluable lessons about life, love, giving, sharing and taking a nap every once in awhile. Henry's owner passed away after having henry for eight years and poor old henry wound up in a kill shelter. We think he is about ten years old but we aren't sure. He is in good health for his age. He is a sweet little dog who weighs around 20-25 pounds. He is crate trained and is doing excellent with housebreaking. He walks well on a leash and loves to be in your lap. Henry likes other dogs, cats and children. He is soon to be neutered and will be fully vetted prior to adoption. Jan-Marie |

BUDDY was adopted by a couple in Franklin Tennessee. He is very happy with his new indoor life and is picking up new commands. He is an only child and is spoiled rotten. Congratulations to Buddy! BUDDY is the perfect family dog. He is a big boy at 70 lbs but is extremely gentle and calm. He is wonderful with children, even toddlers. He plays so well with both female and male dogs. He is never aggressive or territorial. He loves the company of cats and happily shares his sleeping space with them. He is doing a fantastic job with housebreaking and doesn't mark indoors or outdoors. He has excellent house manners, he doesn't chew what is not his and is respectful of his home. He loves to lay around and be loved on and will make a wonderful dog for a busy family. He is very low maintenance and so easy going. Buddy is neutered, on heartworm preventive and up to date on all vaccines. Jan-Marie |

CHANCE (SNAP) a jack russel. He had a sad story to start with. He was owned by several 18 yr old guys. They moved out of their apt and the neighbor below had water dripping. She went up there and found the dog locked in the bathroom. He was in there for 3 days. She brought him to my vet. He stayed there for a while and then they sent him to the kill shelter. I was able to get him out today and he was adopted today. He was adopted to a family who has a 12 yr old girl. The husband likes to do agility with the dogs. They also foster two older mentally retarded adults. A very responsible family! The wife is already starting to work on crate training and commands! He loves to jump up in her arms and be cuddled! He will be well loved, probably for the first time in his life! |
|
KATO has been adopted by a gal who is a vet tech who is currently in vet school. She has a big fenced in back yard and 5 or so other huskies. Kato is so happy there with all her new playmates. They get along pretty well too! She will be well taken care of there! Beautiful female Siberian Husky. She's around 1 yr old. She's purebred. Very sweet and loving. She is very playful. She is housebroken. She will need a fenced in backyard and she does jump fences. She will need a 6 ft. wooden fence because she can climb chain link.

|
BEAMER His new family drove all the way from Massachusetts to adopt him! He is so very blessed! They love him. He's having a little trouble adjusting without his other playmates right now. He will come along soon. BEAMER looks
like a little brown bear. A golden/chow mix with the
sweetest personality, love children, other dogs and even
kitties. Beamer is about 12 to 16 weeks old and will
probably be a medium to large size dog. He is the litter
mate to Benz, we'd love to see these two grow up
together.

BO was transported from Knoxville, TN to his new home in Bow (pronounced Bo), New Hampshire by 12 people (each person transporting him part of the way)!! WOW! That is pretty wild to me (the webmaster here). Renee did a great job somehow getting Bo into that arrangement (she drove one leg of the journey too)!! All of these people volunteered their own time, gas and vehicle to transport Bo. They went even further to e-mail an update of each of their 'legs' of the transport journey with him. The adoptive family is
pretty special too. They are a young couple - both
professionals who have wanted a dog for a while. He wants a
lab and she wants a hound so they compromised and settled on
that particular of a mix! Bo is perfect as he is a lab/hound
mix. I named him Bo long before meeting them. They live in
Bow (pronounced Bo) NH! Isn't that amazing! They will be
taking him hiking, running, biking, and he'll live inside
with them. He will have horses to run with an a playmate dog
down the street (their best friends). He has 3 dog
homecoming parties to go to upon arrival! He already has a
bunch of toys and treats waiting on him. They've been
waiting since mid December for him and haven't given up!

At MIMI'S adoption 11/28/02 |
Update 08/13/2003 from new home: Mimi is doing GREAT and has a new friend. A schnoodle (schauzer-poodle mix) has moved in next door and they have become the greatest of friends. Audrey's mom is an English professor at Lee University here in Cleveland, and she moved here from Minnesota this past summer. Mimi and Audrey hit it off immediately and now Audrey comes everyday to my house for day care while her mom is at work in the halls of higher education. Although Audrey only weighs about twelve pounds she really takes Mimi to task. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw Mimi take Audrey's whole head in her mouth, she was very gentle and did not hurt her at all. They often play this way. When Audrey has had enough or if she thinks Mimi is getting too rough, she just sours down on Mimi's ear. They are hysterical in the backyard. They will run in circles at warp speed, but Audrey is low to the ground and built for speed. She will make a quick 90 degree turn and Mimi's legs are too long to turn that fast and she will do a total wipe out. She will stand up and look at me like, "What happened?" Or Audrey will do a 180 and run right under Mimi and Mimi will almost do a flip in midair trying to keep up. It is really a scream. The only problem I have had was when my sister brought her female over to stay with me for a week while she was on vacation. Stormy and Mimi are about the same age and size and we did have a few scuffles before everything worked out. They had to be separated to be fed, and I had to shut the door for me to eat, but they got along okay. Henry just takes it all in. He did have to take exception when he was asleep in the floor and Mimi, who for some odd reason, likes to sleep with her head on the night stand, knocked the telephone book off on Henry's head. Henry did not especially appreciate this maneuver on Mimi's part, and we all had to have a long talk about phone books and sleeping on the night stand. It has been so ghastly hot we have spent a lot of time at the lake, and had planned a trip to Sanibel Island, which is dog friendly, but unfortunately it had to be postponed. Just wanted you to know Mimi was happy and healthy and enjoying her summer hobbies of backyard pool sunning, sprinkler chasing and water kong retrieval. I have, unfortunately, have had great difficulty with obedience training with her, as she is VERY stubborn, but we are working on it. MIMI is a beautiful solid black pure bred female lab taken from Newport shelter the end of Oct. She's very sweet and playful. She's thought to be a year old. She desires to please. Loves to fetch! She loves other dogs and is not aggressive--would do well with other dogs. She will need a fenced in backyard. She's soon to be spayed, up-to-date on shots and will be micro-chipped. Great dog! |

![]() DAKOTA'S adoption BLACKIE Male lab-border collie mix. is about 6-8 months old, black with white on his chest and feet. He weighs around 45-50 pounds. He's very sweet and playful. He loves other dogs. He is slightly dominant but not aggressive. He was taken from the Claxton area. He was not being take care of and released to animal rescue. No signs of trauma or mistreatment. He's neutered, up-to-date on shots and HW negative. He will need a fenced in backyard. |
BLACKIE now named DAKOTA Adopted 11/29/02 adopted during the Thanksgiving weekend! Blackie has moved to Atlanta to live with a wonderful guy. He has asked his family for a dog for Christmas but was involved in picking out his new buddy. He heard that his family had picked out another dog that was being looked at so he canceled his vacation to drive up here so see the dogs! He ended up picking out a lab mix instead of a pure bred lab. How I appreciate this! The mixes often have less of a chance of getting adopted. He fell in love with Blackie, stating he has the best personality. Update on Blackie: Blackie has adjusted so well. He's the best dog I've ever had! He housebroke immediately. He had a little cough but got over it quickly. He loves going on walks and is so well behaved! He is having fun trying to bury bones around the house. I love this guy--he has the best personality. I'm so happy with him! |

Kobie (white) & Tobie (black) |
KOBIE and Tobie These two have been adopted and are living on a farm in the Nashville area. They love running and chasing the cows and playing. They are very lucky as they were taken from an abusive situation in Georgia by a vet tech. They were being teased and bred for bait dogs for fighting dogs. Thank goodness they had not been ruined. They are very sweet and happy in their new homes. KOBIE (female, white) and Tobie (male, black), they have been searching for a home. They are brother & sister and must be adopted together. They are about 2 years old. Very sweet; housebroken, altered (spayed and neutered), up on shots, regular Heart worm (HW) pills and front-line for tics and fleas. |

BENNIE Adopted 12 / 8 / 02 he has moved to Cookeville to live with his new Mom and Dad and 3 cats and two other dogs. He adjusted very quickly while I was there last night--he and their new dog "Hope" (a border collie/aussie mix) played and played. their original dog, Buddy (a collie/wolf mix with a wonderful temperament) is adjusting--what a lot to adjust too! He's feeling a little left out but he didn't get upset with another male dog. They have a big fenced in back yard and a puppy door to run in and out. They will all sleep on the bed! Bennie went up and licked the face of one of the cats (whew! I was worried about this). Bennie seems to be very happy in his new home! He is so very blessed to find such a wonderful home and such a wonderful, caring family! Bennie went to live with two other friends (dogs named Hope -- adopted from Aussie rescue, and Buddy-- stray wolf mix picked up) He is also getting to know 2 cats. He loves his new home--he lives and sleeps inside and has a big backyard to run and play. He has a doggy door to go out of any time he wants. He gets along great with both dogs and the cats. His new family are very happy with him! Bennie you have found a wonderful home--gone from a stray to living the life of luxury! ![]() BENNIE is Bonnie's (Bonnie is still looking for a home) pup. He's probably about 14 -16 weeks. He's such a sweet puppy. He's been given shots and started on HW medicine. He has been neutered. He is a border collie mix. Probably a medium sized dog when full grown. Very sweet, very playful and lovable. An adorable dog--will do very well w/ kids to play with.

BONNIE
has been adopted! She was adopted by the same wonderful
family who adopted Bennie! She and Bennie were so excited to
see each other when they were united. Bonnie is doing well
as well as Bennie--they are learning their place in the
home. They now live in a group of 4 dogs with 2 cats. They
are both gentle with cats. Bonnie loves playing outside in
the big fenced in back yard. She has a doggy door to run in
and out. She loves to sleep on the bed or sometimes have
quiet time to relax near (or on) the couch! She's so blessed
in this wonderful home. To think she was a stray before
now! ![]() BONNIE
( mother of Bennie). She was found as a stray in Claxton.
She's about 1 year. She is now spayed. She and Bennie were
dumped in front of someone's home. They were there about a
week before I took them. She's had all her shots, HW
negative and one pills for this. She is on Front-line for
fleas and tics. She's a very sweet dog--loves to be petted
and cuddled. Would make a great
pet. Update 3/23/2003: Bonnie and Bennie are doing great. They are getting along a lot better now. Bonnie seems a lot happier and she has started playing with Buddy and Hope. She is so cute when she tries to get Buddy to play. Bonnie enjoys sleeping on the daybed, couch or chair. She loves to play with Bennie. He is so adorable. I love all of them. I'm so glad that I decided to adopt them.

ABBY AND
AMY Two
female German Shepherd / Chow (who- really-knows-what-mix)
mix puppies. These
puppies were rescued 11/21/2002 while running around in /
along an interstate in Knoxville in extreme danger of being
killed. It
was difficult to rescue them as they were afraid. They are
being socialized at this time. Sudden moves, loud noises and
people scare them. They are very protective of each other
and love to be together and play together delightfully. Abby
weighs about 8# and Amy weighs 5#. They have been started on
their vaccinations and have been dewormed. They are
beginning to learn to be
housebroken. ABBY &
AMY will live together. The smaller, Amy, is very protective
of her sister, Abby. They don't like to be separated. They
are learning to walk on a leash. They are becoming less
scared of other humans and have had children over to play
with them. They have been taken several places in the car
already and are getting used to that. They have been bathed
a couple of time and really howl about that. They have a
large fenced yard to play in. They have a big doghouse they
can share - but probably not for long! They come inside the
house at night many times - especially when it's cold. They
love to be petted and love treats.... They have 2 elderly
cats that share the house - the cats rule the roost inside
so far but each are tolerating the other quite well. UPDATE:
1/26/03 Amy and Abby are about 3 months old now. As of
1/13/03 Abby weighed 27 pounds and Amy 24.50 pounds. They
will 'sit' and 'lie down' on request. It is so funny to see
them just plop down so quickly with tails wagging (hoping
for that treat). (It reminds me of that children's game,
'air raid' - when the specific noise sounds, everyone
practically makes nose dive to the ground). They are
beginning to 'fetch' - but this may take some time. They are
better on their leashes. They are doing well with being
housebroken (supervised if let to run in the main house as
they may still occasionally try to 'mark' territory). They
do well in their area of the house - no urinating in the
house for a couple of months now). They LOVED the recent
snow and it was so fun to watch them dive in it, bite at it
and come back in with white nozzles and wagging tails. UPDATE:
September 2003 Abby and Amy love riding in the truck or car.
They love hiking and getting in the water (they like their
feet to touch though). They do not 'fetch' - some dogs just
don't get into that I am learning. They do not like to be
separated - especially Amy from Abby. Abby is a little more
independent...Amy is more codependent. They are housebroken.
They are still skittish of fast movements and loud noises.
They are very affectionate towards us but are still shy of
new people - they are very much improved with this though!
They are still trying to decide what they think of kids it
seems - they primarily try to stay away from most kids. Abby
has no more fear aggression towards other dogs. They are
beautiful dogs! |

![]() RILEY at his new home! Boxer mix
puppy (same puppy in both photos). Riley is neutered, up on
shots, micro-chipped, on front-line, HW neg. and on pills.
Great great dog. Sweet, gentle, gets along well with other
dogs. Was a stray in Claxton and picked up weekend of 6/10.
Needs room to run--fenced in backyard. Wants to be part of
the family. Looks to me to be boxer/ridgeback maybe. Around
8 months old. 40 -- 45 lbs. |
RILEY He is living with another dog and two cats. He gets along well with all of them and is learning his place in the pecking order. He is living in a home with a family that has one daughter going off to college this fall. He has his own bed to sleep in and a fenced in yard to run around in. He loves to play with his new buddie, Princess, who was a stray also. He loves to run up and down the fence with the neighbor's dogs, Corkies. He has been wonderful--learning his limits and not challenging them. He is getting treats every day, walks at night. What a blessed dog--to come from being a stray in Claxton to this.
|
1.5 yrs old, boxer mix, found in the Claxton area running loose. The neighbor was feeding him but animal control had been looking for him. He's a great dog--loves to play and run. He will need a fenced in back yard--preferably a wooden fence (I don't know if he can get over a chain link). He needs to be in a home where children are grown and where he can be the center of attention. He gets jealous for attention easily but is a love. He loves to cuddle and thinks he is a lap dog. He loves to fetch and would make a great agility or frisbee catching dog for someone. He hates cats and probably shouldn't be with small dogs (we know he hates squirrels!). |

NIKKI She was the runt but now very healthy. She is spayed, micro-chipped, up on shots, HW pills, front-line for fleas. She is a sweetie and I would actually like to adopt either her and Sam (pictured below) out together or her and Gracie out together. Nikki's personality is that she's very playful with the other dogs and with people when she gets to know you but skittish at first--will run and hide. Gets along well with other dogs. Would do best to go with one of the dogs in her litter. Never been abused. Around 25 to 30 lbs, but small. Shep mix . It does concern me that if she's let out of the house and is really skittish, doesn't know the people well--she will have trouble coming back. Sweet dog and loves to cuddle too. Born November 2000. |
DANNIE Beautiful rescued male purebred sheltie on 3/24/02 that had been living in the woods for a month. He was very scared when I found him. He was found off of Chapman Hwy. in Knoxville. Adorable dog. About 1-3 years old. Weighs 10 lbs. Good natured dog. He is vaccinated, neutered, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. |
|
GRACIE
She has shepherd in her (some golden too maybe). Gracie is
very sweet and laid-back. Does like to chase a ball
sometimes. Born November 2000, spayed, micro chipped, HW
negative with pills, front-line, up on shots. She is a
cuddler too, quiet dog. Gets along well with dogs, haven't
tried cats but don't think it will be a problem. Great great
dog as well as the other pups. 50 lbs.. Sam and Gracie have
to be adopted together. |
|
|
Adopted 6/1/02 SAM He's neutered. Born November 2000, about 45-50 lbs... He's up to date on shots, micro chipped, neutered, on HW pills and front-line. He gets along great with dogs. Hasn't been tried with cats but judging from his personality--doesn't seem to be a problem. He's very sweet and although a puppy and likes to play is a calm puppy. He's probably golden retriever/shepherd mix. Sam is about 50 lbs.. Sam and Gracie have to be adopted together. |

MOE I have gotten the biggest kick out of the family taking MOE (new name is JAKE). They've called nearly every day with questions! They are sooooo excited! His new name is Jake and they are busily accumulating doggy toys, bed, a crate, bowls and his new food. They are so cute and so ready to have Jake join their family. They're picking him up at 6:30 on Wednesday. I think he has hit the jackpot (jakepot??)! Thanks for taking such good care of MOE/JAKE JAKE'S new family arrived with a leash to match his collar and news of his new crate and $100 Lands' End dog bed! He also has a brand-new cow toy! We had bathed him and his coat was gorgeous - shiny and thick. He was tired from all the attention all day and ready to settle down in a lap. All of us sat in the floor and he took turns moving from one of us to the other! He really did hit the jackpot! God was looking out for him. I assisted with Jake's adoption through Lab Rescue. THANKS Lab Rescue!!!! Pure lab named Moe: male / neutered. Up-to-date (UTD) on shots. About 3-4 yrs old. Very sweet and quiet. Gets along with other dogs. He's solid black. Kennel trained. He weighs about 50 lbs. |
|
PETIE was adopted out through pit bull rescue. He now lives in the Highlands in Va. He's about 9 month old male purebred pit bull. He's wearing the plastic collar because he's just been neutered. He is brindle and white. He has a wonderful personality - very sweet and loves to sit in your lap. He is micro-chipped, UTD on shots, HW negative. He gets along with other dogs and would make a wonderful companion. He is with pitbull rescue in Mtn. City, TN. |

CURLY
and Annie went to their first doggie birthday party today. A
yorkie named Khan was the birthday boy and there was also a
chow mix in attendance. They all behaved so well, got little
party favors, and even a cake made out of carob and peanut
butter. We have got some really spoiled doggies on our hands
right now. |
CURLY: Lab mix (probably lab and cocker ). Male / neutered. He has a curly medium length coat. He weighs about 50 lbs. Very sweet and playful. He's about 2 yrs old. UTD shots. update 4/5/02: We took Curly and Annie shopping over the weekend and Curly picked out a huge stuffed duck that makes quacking noises when you bite its neck. It's a little disturbing but he loves it and sleeps with it. Annie got a croaking frog. So, now I hear quacks and croaks every time they roll over during the night. My mom sent them both Easter treats. She's decided they are her grand kids and she's spoiling them. We came home from work yesterday to find Annie and Curly both laying on their backs on our bed, their heads on the pillows, snoring away like some old married couple. |
CURLY with new playmate, Annie update 10/25/02: Curly loves his new fence and since it has the side yard included, he can run all over the place. He is truly master of his domain! He has gained a bit of weight probably because of all the treats he gets during raining. His and Annie's buddy (a yorkie named Khan) just moved into the neighborhood so everyone is very happy. We now have very distinguished looking portraits of Annie and Curly hanging in our living room. Everyone gets a kick out of those. View current photos of Curly at my website
